West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona November 05, 2010 Mary Edelia Martinez, 67, of Avondale died Nov. 3, 2010, in Goodyear. Mrs. Martinez was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Stockdale, Texas, to Pilar and Francisca Trevino. In 1964, she moved to Arizona, where she met her husband, David Martinez Sr. She worked for Maricopa County teaching senior citizens how to use commodities. She also was a Head Start assistant for the Avondale Elementary and Tolleson Elementary school districts and then a bus driver for the Littleton Elementary School District. Mrs. Martinez also participated in a number of volunteer activities, including being a troop leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts, a worker for Meals on Wheels, the teacher of a program for English language learners and a director at the Avondale and Cashion senior centers. She is survived by her husband, David; one daughter, Dianetta Castro; three sons, Derrick Diaz, David Martinez Jr. and Daniel Martinez; one sister, Niki Lopez; one brother, Daniel Trevino; and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 10:00am Monday at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear. Services will follow at Noon at the chapel.
