SCHOTT, Oneta Sally Ray

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Sunday, February 12, 2012 - Oneta Sally Ray Schott Sept. 10, 1920 — Dec. 22, 2011 I was blessed with such a wonderful Mother’s love. Generous to the end and always putting my needs before her own. In dealing with her death, my only request of her was that she would not suffer, die on my birthday or Christmas. Her timing was her own of course, just like every important decision in her life. Mom’s only wish for herself was to go off on a “pink cloud” and she did Dec. 22, 2011 at 11:11 a.m. She was 92 years young. A numerologist would just love her sense of numbers. Even her age 92 equals 11. The Hospice Nurse told me 11 was her favorite number because it is “Perfection plus one!” Oneta Sally Ray Schott was truly a kick. She got her feisty personality by being the youngest child of four. She lived a full life; a long and active one. A widow at aged 58, she was always independent and determined to take care of herself. She loved traveling the world and went to every continent, except Antarctica. She played golf for over 40 years. She was a competitor and loved cheering for her favorite pros in both golf and tennis. She shared the same birth date as Arnold Palmer, Sept. 10. He was just one of many of her favorite golf pros. Her friends adored and loved her; she was a lady to the end. Oneta is survived by her only child, Christine Simmons; her grandchildren, Corie and Drew Simmons; and her nieces, Terry Patterson and Lynn Haskell. She will be terribly missed. We know she is enjoying her new journey in the company of those who went before her. The family celebrated her life by attending the Cancer Ball on Feb. 4, reserving a table in her honor. Hospice provided all the care and comfort at home we require. Her passing was peaceful and without pain. They were a blessing to us and truly met all of our needs. Always thinking of other, mother donated her body to science to help other women battling breast cancer. Remembrances with donations in her name can be made to Hospice of Havasu or the Cancer Association of Havasu.
