Gloria I. Hancock 76, passed away Sunday Feb. 12, 2012 in Lake Havasu City. She was born May 15, 1935 in a hotel in the gold mining town of Nevada City, Calif.
Gloria began her career as a operator for Western Union in Sacramento, Calif. and continued in the field of tele-communications for many years. It was while serving as a teletype operator at the Naval Air Station in Alameda Calif. that she met her future husband, Lewis Hancock. They married on the 7th of March, 1970 and spent 42 wonderful years together, traveling and living in Greece, Morocco, Spain and Puerto Rico. Upon their retirement they returned to Nevada City where Gloria was active with the First Baptist Church serving as the secretary for many years. She was also active with the women’s activities and teacher of the primary children's Sunday school class for six years.
Gloria loved and served her Lord and Savior in every area in which she was called. After her husband retired from a second career she relocated to Lake Havasu City in 2003 where she attended Calvary Baptist Church. Gloria loved everyone, but especially enjoyed children. She enjoyed traveling with their camping group, playing Bunco with friends and especially doing crafts. Always an artist, she had recently filled her days with card making and scrapbooking. A loving wife, caring mother and faithful friend, she will be dearly missed.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and her beloved Yorki, Maggie.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial for Gloria will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd. on Friday the 17th of February at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrance donations be made in her name to Rainbow Acres, PO Box 1326, Camp Verde, AZ 86322
