(Maiden Name: Markham)
Catherine Mary Carter, 86
FALLBROOK - Our beloved Catherine Mary Carter, 86, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 12, at Fallbrook Hospital. Born May 5, 1918, in Benton, Iowa, she lived in Oceanside for 16 years.
Catherine and her husband, John Max Carter, previously owned and operated a Native American gift shop at the Superstition Inn in Mesa, Ariz., during the 1960s and 1970s after relocating from Boulder, Colo., where they lovingly raised their two children, Linda and Michael.
An accomplished artist, her personal artwork was an inspiration to family members and fellow artists. Her strikingly detailed and equally stunning work ranged from watercolors to oil painting to decorative art and quilting. Although the majority of her artwork may never be seen in a gallery, it will be cherished by friends and family members for generations to come. The versatility in her artwork could only be challenged by that which she displayed as a wife, mother, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her dedication to her friends and genuine love for her family - near and far - cannot be understated. She was an angel in the truest sense of the word, a gift shared by a great many, and forgotten by none. She will truly be missed.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Helen; husband Max in 1994; and son Michael Carter in 2000. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Thomas Pack of Fallbrook, Calif.; grandson Jeffrey Pack of Fallbrook, Calif.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Steven Pack and Sarah Marai of La Costa, Calif.; grandson John Carter of Fort Collins, Colo.; granddaughter Melissa Pack of Fallbrook; and granddaughter and grandson-in-law Carrie and Chris Romer of Eastlake, Colo. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Garrett, Brayden and Delainey Pack of Temecula, Calif., Jacob Caro-Pack of Fallbrook, Calif., and C.J., Corban, Chai, Caedan and Catherine Romer of Eastlake, Colo.
A viewing will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary, 333 N. Vine, Fallbrook, Calif. Graveside services and interment will commence at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Leukemia Society, 8575 Gibbs Drive, San Diego, CA.
