Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Friday, February 24, 2012 > Charles “Chuck” Day < > Jan. 4, 1926 — Feb. 21, 2012 < In loving memory of Charles “Chuck” Day, who passed away at Havasu Regional Medical Center Tuesday. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1944. He earned his navigator’s wings in July 1945, and spent tours of duty at Moody Army Air Field in Valdosta, Ga., Tyndall Army Air Field in Panama City, Fla., San Marco, Texas, Ellington Army Air Field in Houston, Texas, and Nellis Army Air Field in Nevada. From there he went on to the Canal Zone with a rescue unit flying OA-10 and B-17 aircraft. At the end of the war, he attended pilot training at Randolph Army Air Field. After World War II, he participated in the Berlin airlift, flying C-54 aircraft. He left the Air Force and became an airline pilot and later a captain for TWA, where he retired after 35 years to Newport Beach. He moved to Lake Havasu in 1992. Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his son, Mickey; and Parker Smith, his great-grandson. He is survived by his three sons, Charles Day, Robbie Day and Randy Day; his daughter, Karen Smith; sister, Frances Walters; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. A funeral mass will be Feb. 27, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at noon.
