HETHERITON, Gary Scott


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, February 28, 2012 Gary Scott Hetheriton Longtime resident and business owner Gary Scott Hetheriton, 71, passed away peacefully after a valiant 10-year battle with lung disease at his home on Feb. 27, 2012, to join his Lord and Savior. Gary was born to Marion D. and Verna Leola (Wilkins) Hetheriton on April 15, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Truckee in the Mediterranean and in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs Conflict. Gary was married to Sharron Laughlin Young on June 8, 1984, in Mesa, Ariz., and relocated to Yavapai County in 1985. Together they opened and operated P.V. Manufactured Homes in Prescott Valley and Dewey until 2008. Gary served as a board member of the P.V. Chamber of Commerce when the fledgling community boasted a population of 3,500 people, and enjoyed being a part of its remarkable growth. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. #3 and the American Legion Post 78. So very proud of their beautiful blended family, Gary is survived by his wife of 27 years; his children Teri (Tom) Maher, Jerri (Randy) James, Michael (Melissa) Hetheriton of Monroe City, Mo.; Jon and Daniel Hetheriton of Columbia, Mo.; Colleen Cheney of Holbrook, Kara (Cole) Schumann of Prescott Valley; siblings Allen and Trudy Hetheriton of Phoenix; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two new blessings expected this year; and countless longtime friends and business associates. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley, Ariz., followed by a gathering at the American Legion Post 78 in Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his honor to the American Legion Post 78 or Granite Mountain Home Care and Hospice. Sunrise Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
