H. S. Knight Dies; Cowboy Friend of Buffalo Bill Cody
YUMA - Harry S. Knight, 97, who was a friend of Col. William F. ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody and Annie Oakley, died Saturday in Desert Manor here, and services were held Tuesday.
Burial will be today in Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott.
He started work as a cowboy when he was 13 and had worked at various ranches, including the Horeshoe Outfit on the Agua Fria River, Diamond Outfit in the Four Peaks area, O.K. Outfit on the Verde river, J. L. Bar Outfit at Castle Hot Springs and a number of smaller ranches.
Besides traveling in the Buffalo Bill Show, Mr. Knight was with the Cole Younger and Frank James Shows, Texas Bill and Indian Bill. It was during this time that he won rodeo, contests in roping, bronc riding and bulldogging.
Since 1912 Mr. Knight had owned and operated the Three Link at Walnut Grove, Calif., the Triangle HC at Camp Wood, and the Knight Farms at Yuma.
He also started the first dude ranch in Yavapai, County in 1929, The Triangle HC Ranch. He sold it in 1948 to Sam McElhaney.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; children, Robert C., Richard LaRock, and Mrs. Margaret Knight Jenkins, and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
