Howard Dean Bakker passed away March 6, 2012. He was born on July 6, 1933, in Superior, Wis., and grew up in Wilmot, S.D.
Howard joined the Navy and saw the world. Early in his Navy career, in 1954, he married Nadine Quale, of Summit, S.D., and they started a family. He retired from the Navy in 1973 and moved to Oregon. While working full time as a guard in the state penitentiary, he also went to college full time and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. After a short time teaching, he settled again in Coos Bay, Ore., where he completed his working career as a parole and probation officer. In 1999, Howard and Nadine retired in Lake Havasu City. Howard enjoyed restoring cars, playing cards with family and friends, and was a life-long hunter.
He is survived by Nadine; daughters, Jacalyn, Naomi and Michelle; and son, Tony. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations to be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
A celebration of life service will take place today at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
