BAKER, Harrison Louis

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, March 10, 2012 Harrison Louis Baker, 93, of Williamsport, Md., died on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Homewood Health Care Center in Williamsport. Mr. Baker, son of the late Harrison and Zita Baker, was born in 1918 in Chicago, Ill. He grew up in the Detroit, Mich., area. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine M. (Kay) McGraw Baker on April 7, 2011. They were married on March 1, 1943. Having graduated from University of Detroit, Mr. Baker's career began in Washington, D.C., working for the Navy as an electrical engineer during World War II. He then worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, which took him to Ohio, Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Alaska and Utah. He finished his career with the State Department (U.S. AID) in the Philippines and La Paz, Bolivia. After he retired, he and his wife settled in Prescott, Ariz., where they lived for 26 years. In 2003, they moved to Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport. Harry and his wife, Kay, were world travelers and visited 80 countries together. Harry was very active in the Lions Club in Prescott and Hagerstown, Pa. He volunteered with the AARP Tax Aide program for 15 years, and enjoyed bowling. He dedicated his life to his family, as exemplified by the book he wrote, "A Family History as Recorded by Harrison L. Baker." He is survived by four sons, Paul and his wife Kaleen of Winchester, Va.; Alan and his wife Diane of Redmond, Ore.; Craig and his wife Susan of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kurt and his wife Kim of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at the Homewood Health Care Chapel in Williamsport, Md., and will be announced at a later date. There will be no viewing.
