Howard Wilson 82, passed away Feb. 24, 2012 surrounded by his family. Howard was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Chicago, Ill. to Lyle and Patricia Wilson. After Patricia’s death the family moved to Los Angeles, Calif. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, which he joined after graduation from high school.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of 32 years; four children, Susan (Rex) Hall, Carrie (Brian) Solomon, Diane Wilson and Howard Wilson Jr.; grandchildren, Christopher, Shana, Corinne, Damian and Darien; great-granddaughters, Kayley, Jordan and Sarah; brother, Raymond (Carole) Wilson; mother-in-law, Hazel Franklin; brother-in-laws, Thomas (Jackie) Franklin and Timothy (Renee) Franklin and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
After leaving the service Howard began working at F.E. Olds & Son, a manufacturer of Brass Musical Instruments. He continued working at the Olds company for the next thirty years and retired as Assistant General Manager. Although he could not play a note, he was very good at designing and building all types of horns.
He participated in several types of sports, baseball, football, bowling, fishing and golf. He developed a keen interest in thoroughbred racing, when his father purchased his first racehorse. Many of the horses were kept at Howard’s home in Norco, Calif. and he had quite an eye for purchasing and picking winners. Howard and Linda moved to Grants Pass, Ore., where he enjoyed fishing on the Rogue River. While living in Oregon, his curiosity about his mother and her family, which he knew very little about, led to his interest in genealogy and a new hobby. Howard and Linda eventually moved to Lake Havasu to be closer to family and spend more time with their children and growing grandchildren. Howard was much loved by his family, friends and respected by all who knew him.
Memorial services will take place at noon on March 23, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donation be made to Hospice, Disabled American Vets or a charity of your choice in the name of Howard L. Wilson.
