The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, July 30, 2003 Cecil E. Wakefield, 73, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in his home Fri. July 25 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 yrs., Pearl; daughter Bonnie and her husband Dennis; grandchildren Adrienne and Zachary; son Robert and his wife Rene; grandchildren, Robby, Becky, Linda, Christina, Marie and Karen. Cecil was born in Decatur, IL. July 15, 1930. He moved with his family to Santa Fe, NM in 1954 to become an artist. In 1963, the family moved to Phx, AZ for Cecil to further his career. He has had a very successful life as an artist of all medium; painting, graphic arts and woodcarving. He is nationally and internationally known for his woodcarving skills. He has won top awards in national and international woodcarving shows. He has served as a Judge for numerous award shows and is greatly admired as a woodcarving teacher. He is known as the "woodcarver extraordinaire." Cecil was a member of AWA, Grand Canyon Woodcarvers, Cactus Carvers, Southwest Woodcarvers and Woodcarvers Congress. LDS graveside services will be held in Decatur, IL, on Sat, Aug. 2 at 11am for those who wish to pay their respects, Visitation In Phx, will be held at Lundberg White Rose Chapel, 5310 W. Northern Ave. on Wed., July 30 at 5pm.
