WONG, Gene Wah


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona 7/30/2003 - 7/31/2003. Gene Wah Wong, 77, passed away July 25, 2003. Born in Canton, China on September 13, 1925, Mr. Wong immigrated to the United States in 1952 and settled in Arizona as a grocer. He left Arizona in 1965, but returned permanently to the state in 1968. Mr. Wong owned and operated Foodway Market in central Phoenix for over twenty years before retiring in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kam Chu Wong; his brother, Kok Wah; his sisters, Ngan Fong and Lai Ching; his daughter, Gina Wong; his daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Jon Yee; his son, Hiram Wong; and his grandchildren, Zachary and Taylor Yee. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM at A.L. Moore Grim-shaw Mortuaries, 710 West Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Services are to be held Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 10 AM at the First Chinese Baptist Church, 4910 East Earll Drive, Phoenix, Arizona followed by interment at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 West Van Buren, Phoenix, Arizona.
