The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, July 31, 2003 Helen Hubertha Baker Jefferson was born July 5, 1904 in Neodesha, Kansas, the younger child and only daughter of Frank J. and Netti H. (Van Rosmalen) Baker. She died July 11, 2003 at age 99. Helen attended school in Neodesha and graduated from NHS with the class of 1923. Her first job was secretary to an executive at Standard Oil of Indiana and later she became secretary to U.S. Senator Woodring of Kansas. She married Leo Jefferson of Neodesha in 1931. They moved to Kansas City in the late 1940s where they owned a small business. In 1961 they moved to Mesa, AZ where Leo passed away in 1971. In 1997 Helen suffered a stroke and was admitted to an Adult Care Home in Gilbert, AZ where she received "Tender Loving Care" for over 6 years. Helen had a most interesting and busy life. In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and fishing and always had a pet dog by her side. Later she enjoyed such things as playing bridge and foreign travel. Survivors include three nephews, B. Barney Baker, Arlington, TX, Robert E. Baker, Chandler, AZ and Richard P Baker, Boise, ID. Graveside services will be at 9:00 am., Sat., August 2, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Mesa. Melcher's Chapel of the Roses handled the arrangements.
