BREWSTER, James Watt


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, March 15, 2012 James Watt Brewster Jim Brewster, who loved music and sang in Yavapai College choirs for more than 10 years, died peacefully at home on March 10, 2012, after fighting a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Jim was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Leeds, England. He grew up in England and Scotland, developing his singing skills as an English choirboy. He apprenticed as an ironmonger and was in the Royal Navy. Jim worked in sales positions for several companies in England before building an oceangoing catamaran and sailing to the Caribbean. It was here that he shared his passion for sailing as a charter boat skipper. Jim was predeceased by his brother Ian Brewster of Scotland. He is survived by his wife Deanne of Prescott, Ariz.; sister Jean (Colin) McKay of Scotland; brother Donald (Erlinda) Brewster of Canada; loving nieces and nephews and their children. A celebration of his life will occur at a future date. Contributions in his memory may be made to Yavapai College Foundation, Dr. Will Fisher Endowed Choral Music Scholarship, 1100 E. Sheldon St., P.O. Box 6904, Prescott, AZ 86301. His body has been donated to Biological Resource Center for medical research and education, and his cremated ashes will be scattered in the Caribbean.
