MCCARTHY, John Vincent (Jack)


Heritage Funeral Chapel, Peoria, Arizona John Vincent McCarthy passed away in Peoria, AZ on March 17th (St. Paddy's Day) at age 88. John (Jack) was born in San Francisco on May 25th, 1923 to Philip C. and Violet M. McCarthy. His beloved son Michael preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Clara (Lucille) McCarthy, his loving son James McCarthy and his loving daughter-in-law, Kathryn McCarthy. He is survived by his loving sister, Bernadette McCarthy and sister-in-law Gladys McCarthy. Jack was a beloved Grandfather to Jenny Dietz, John McCarthy and Michael McCarthy. He was also the beloved Great-Grandfather to Zachariah, Gavin and Caleb Dietz as well as Beverly, Ian, Jeremiah and Thomas McCarthy. Jack graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco, California and served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a lower ball turret gunner on a B-17. After the war he married Lucille (Clara) Stine and entered service in the San Francisco Fire Department on October 5th, 1948. He retired as a Lieutenant in the San Francisco Fire Department on July 9, 1977. He also played American Legion Baseball in his younger day and had a reputation as a very good pitcher. Everyone who had the chance to meet and know John loved him and spoke very highly of him. A private ceremony will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located in Phoenix, AZ.
