Leona Ruth Gatheright, 75, of Avondale died March 8, 2012, at Hospice of the Valley Palm Valley. 

Mrs. Gatheright was born June 15, 1936, in Little Rock, Ark., to Alanzo and Jessie McElroy. She was a homemaker and moved to Arizona in 2003. She also acted as an assistant in Girl Scout troops.

She is survived by one daughter, Lawanda Milton of Goodyear; four sisters, Janita, Lindasue, Essiemae and Dorthy; two brothers, Randy and Merlin; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be private.
