Mr. B. Alden Tinnin of Lake Havasu City passed away on March 4, 2012. He was born on May 29, 1930 in Jerome, Arizona to Otis B. Tinnin and Ethel Vergie (Wood) Tinnin. Mr. Tinnin is survived by the love of his life: Marjorie Ruth Tinnin; three sons Alden (Irina) of Dallas, TX, Nathan (Lou Ann) of Austin, TX, also Randall (Karla) of Tucson, AZ; one daughter Michelle McGovern of Costa Mesa, CA; one grandson Alden Christopher Tinnin of Dayton, Ohio; two granddaughters Elizabeth and Emily of Austin, TX and 2 sisters Frances (Donald) and Iola (Wells) both of Kearny, AZ.
Mr. Tinnin grew upin Ajo, AZ and graduated from high school there. After graduation he went to work for Phelps Dodge Corporation. He was a railroad brakeman doe 1 1/2 years and a locomotive engineer for 7 1/2 years. In 1957, Mr. Tinnin resigned to attend college in southern California. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in psychology. While attending college full time he also worked full time and still made time for his family. After graduation he moved back to Arizona and taught middle school for 2 years. While attending graduate school at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ he was recruited by the Government of Guam. In a963 Mr. Tinnin and his family moved to Guam. While there he was a teacher, counselor and administrator. Upon completion of his Master's Degree in psychology and counseling he was promoted to a consultant's position and was responsible for supervising counselors in ten different schools. Mr. Tinnin believed that education was a journey not a destination, he proved this by continuing to take post graduate courses relevent to his profession.
At a point Mr. Tinnin was sent to Washington, D.C. to learn the latest techniques in testing the hearing impaired for proper academic placement. While at this conference Mr. Tinnin became aware of a counseling position at Mohave Community College on the Lake Havasu City campus. Since Guam was his permanent home leaving here was not an easy decision to make. He was offered a contract by M.C.C. and he accepted. In 1975, mr. Tinnin and his family moved from Guam to Lake Havasu City. He was the first counselor on the Lake Havasu campus, a position he held for 19 years. He retired in 1995.
Mr. Tinnin's hobbies were hiking, photography, rock climbing, lapidary and silver smithing. Several of his photograph's were published. He was also an author which included short stories and some prose and poetry. Another interest of his was traveling. He was a world traveler having visited some 40 countries. One of his journeys was a trip around the world which included a 17 day camera safari in the East African countries of Kenya and Tanzania.
Mr. Tinnin met his wife Marjorie in Lake Havasu City. They were married on May 18, 1985 by a Presbyterian minister, 10 years later they renewed their vows with a rabbi officiating, 10 years after that they renewed their vows again with a retired Army Colonel officiating. Marjorie and Alden recently celebrated their 26 anniversary with family and friends. They traveled to Canada, both coats of Mexico, Jamaica and experienced a Caribbean Cruise. The Tinnin's also spent numerous summers RVing and spending time in Payson, AZ. However, recently they have been spending their summers in the beautiful and cool Hualapai Mountains. Mr. Tinnin will be missed terribly. There will be a memorial srvice at a later date.
