ELENZ, Leo Henry


Big Bug News, Mayer, Arizona Leo Henry Elenz, 79, of New Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo. He was born April 8, 1932, in Alta Vista, son of Lawrence and Marie Elenz. He married Marilyn Cecilia Mishak on May 1, 1957, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Alta Vista. Mr. Elenz served in the Korean War. He was a farmer, carpenter, policeman, restaurant and barkeep and motel owner. He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Center, the Knights of Columbus, Alta Vista VFW, New Hampton American Legion and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Leo enjoyed fishing, hunting, storytelling, wood working, playing cards and flying his airplane. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Lori (Red) Deutsch of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Lisa (Tim Peterson) Elenz of Boise, Idaho; four sons, Jeff (Candace) of Waverly, Tony (Nancy) of Eagan, Minn., Keith (Karla) of New Hampton and Chris (Nancy) of Kempner, Texas; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Theresa Stremcha of New Hampton, Rita Cummings of Evansdale, Rose Meirick of Jesup, Margaret Faber of Algona, Tillie Havlik of Elma, Katie Schmit of New Hampton and Alice Kintzle of Waterloo; two brothers, Mike of Reno, Nev. and Larry of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Webb and Barbara Bormann; and a brother, John. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home, New Hampton, Iowa, with a 6 p.m. Scriptural wake service, and before services Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Center, New Hampton, Iowa.
