DIXON, Larry Loss

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, March 27, 2012 - Larry Loss Dixon passed away peacefully March 17, 2012 St. Patrick’s Day, at home in Lake Havasu City at the age of 67. He was born March 29, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Mildred and Don Dixon, the oldest of two boys. Larry married Sheila Darling thus continuing their childhood love affair. They were children in Des Moines regaining a relationship 40 years later in Scottsdale. They spent 10 years in Seattle before returning to Arizona in 1999. Larry spent his life in the telecommunications starting after his discharge from the Army in 1963. He was a pioneer in the cellular industry and was a major player in the air-to-ground phone services. After retiring to Havasu, his hobbies ranged from building boats, planes, trains and working with wood, building beautiful urns and jewelry boxes. Never say he wasn’t committed to his hobbies especially after viewing his beautiful backyard, pizza oven and all. While in Seattle, he found another passion, boating. He loved Puget Sound and was Vice Commodore of the Yarrow Bay Yacht Club. Never was a man more fun to be around, even the kids in the LHUSD No. 1 enjoyed him as their substitute teacher for four years. He adopted subbing because of his love for children. Larry is survived by his wife of 27 years; his brother, David, of Enumclaw, Wash.; his son, Josh, of San Diego; and his stepdaughter, Taara, of Havasu; and many Armentrout cousins. Larry and Sheila lived for their grandchildren, Mckenzie, of Lake Havasu, Kyle, of Seattle, Alexis and Breannyn, of Newark, Ill. Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed. There will be no service as per his wishes. If desired, memorials should be made to your favorite charity. Many thanks to the Cardio and Kidney staff at HRMC.
