BURGESS (PASTOR),
James H.
The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona
Thursday, March 29, 2012
Pastor James H. Burgess of Prescott Valley, Ariz., entered heaven on March 27, 2012. In 1934, James Burgess was born to John and Margie Burgess, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He spent most of his life in beautiful Arizona as an Assembly of God minister for more than 47 years. In that time, his influence touched the lives of many people, as he captured key moments in the human life: blessing babies, uniting couples in marriage, counseling hurting hearts, and honoring people at funerals. A pastor has that unique gift to influence and love at both the special times and the ordinary times.
Pastor Burgess had a natural habit of comforting and encouraging both friends and strangers. His dynamic and warm personality attracted everyone around him. He lived his life displaying warm, enthusiastic, genuine love toward people. His witty jokes, giant hugs, and cheerfully bold voice always lit up the room. He lived with the palm of his hand wide open, with a grand spirit of generosity, always giving and assisting others as God led him to. Pastor Burgess inspired people to show compassion without reservation and to give without hesitation. His influence will linger on and forever hold the hearts of all the lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, his lifelong bride of 56 years, Billie Burgess. Pastor Burgess and Billie were a dependable team as they fulfilled their mission on Earth together, encouraging human hearts to live for Christ.
He is also survived by his sisters Frances Niesen and Cheryl Burgess; his daughter Shari Miller; his son Steve Burgess; his grandchildren, Lisa Moore, Kyle Miller, Aaron Burgess and Justin Burgess; and his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Dakotah and Titus Moore.
Pastor James Burgess loved his family powerfully and, if you knew him, you know that he loved you too. Thank you to each of you who played a part in his life.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Mile High Worship Center, 7605 East Long Look Drive, Prescott Valley, Ariz., 772-0430.
