Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona Wednesday, April 04, 2012 Globe — John M. North, age 97, of Globe, Ariz. passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012. John was born Oct. 26, 1914 in Hawthorne, Calif., the son of Helen Sniffen and Clarence M. North. John proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. During World War II he trained hard hat Navy divers in underwater welding. He worked 14 years at Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company and 16 at Magma Copper Company. John also taught electrical maintenance for mining equipment in Peru. In his younger years, he traveled all across Arizona and New Mexico performing with his saxophone. He was a professional photographer for weddings, graduations and studio portraits. John loved Canadian lake fishing as well as fishing the White Mountain streams. He was a square dance caller and loved square dancing with his wife, Mary. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Vesta North; stepson, John L. Jones; and granddaughter Gina. He leaves behind in loving memory two sons, C.M. Butch (Katheren A.) North and Jimmy (Lynda “Kelly”) North; one daughter, Dixie (Wayne) Cooper; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held Friday, April 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Globe Cemetery, Hackney Avenue, in Globe, Ariz. Funeral arrangements for John M. North were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Globe.
