Bring's Broadway Chapel Tucson, Arizona Dorothy M. Castle July 16, 1921 ~ April 2, 2012 Dorothy M. Castle, nee McKay, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 in Tucson, AZ. She was born on July 16, 1921, to Carrie Lucille and Hayden McKay in Granite City, IL. Being an exceptional student, Dorothy graduated valedictorian of her high school class and continued her education at Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute and Illinois State University where she received her BS in Education. Upon graduation, Dorothy was selected as a stewardess on the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad and continued until her marriage to Fred F. Castle in 1944. Dorothy was, first and foremost, a devoted wife to her husband, Lt. Col. Fred F. Castle, USAFR (Ret) and a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but as a lifelong proponent of education, encouraged countless students in their early childhood years as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in the Jennings and Florissant Public School Districts. She continued her own quest for knowledge by obtaining a Master's Degree in Education (MSEd) and completing additional hours towards her PhD. Dorothy Castle will be dearly missed and is survived by her children, Pat Castle VerSteeg, Fred Castle, Jr. and his wife, Maureen, Cindy Castle Spencer, and Jim Castle and his wife, Dianne; grandchildren, Ann Wilson and her husband, Jonathan, Scott Castle, Connelly Castle and her husband, Taylor Conover, Matt Spencer, Andrew Spencer, Chris Castle and his wife, Lacy, and Beth Castle; great grandchildren, McKenna Castle, and William Castle. A memorial service was held at 10:00 AM on April 5, 2012, at Bring's Broadway Chapel in Tucson, AZ, with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, where she was interred with her loving husband of 58 years.
