SCHRAAN, Floyd Curtis


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Friday, April 06, 2012 Floyd Curtis Schraan of Mesa and Flagstaff Arizona passed away peacefully on March 28th,2012. Prior to moving to Arizona, he had lived his entire life in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. Born to John E. and Metha Schraan on April 24, 1920, he attended Buffalo Lake School, was an active life-long member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and became a conscientious businessman in the Buffalo Lake community. Known to his family and friends as “Bud,” he drew on his warm relationships with family, schoolmates, pastors, fellow church members, employers and business associates as the source of his confidence, self-discipline and enjoyment of life. He graduated from Buffalo Lake School as class salutatorian and accomplished athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball and football, and serving as captain of the football team during his senior year. Following graduation, he enjoyed farm work and spent two years at Macalester College before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He rose to the rank of Captain in the Air Force’s Air Transport Command prior to his discharge in 1946. He then attended the University of Minnesota, preparing for a career in the insurance industry. After graduation, he supervised agents in Southwestern Minnesota before joining the insurance agency at State Bank of Buffalo Lake. He spent many years leading the growth of this agency, until retiring and establishing his own insurance agency in Buffalo Lake. In addition to his work and family life, he actively practiced his Christian faith and enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and collecting coins and stamps. He married Eileen Ulrickson of Olivia, Minnesota in 1947, and they became the proud parents of three sons and grandparents of three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, his sons – John (Renee) of Flagstaff, Arizona, children Nicholas, Rachel, and Matthew; Joel (Kathy Abbott) of Peoria, Arizona; and Jay (Lori) of Upland, California. He was truly blessed to have had Eileen as the love of his life, best friend and companion for more than 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Verna and Mavis.
