BRICKSON, Marjorie Louise


Marjorie Louise Brickson passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and community volunteer. She was born on January 1, 1922 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. She received her B.S. in English at the University of South Dakota, where she was homecoming queen in 1942 and active in the Chi Omega Sorority. She taught high school English for one year in Onawa, Iowa prior to her marriage. Marge and John married on June 1, 1944 while he was a Navy pilot in World War II, flying troops across the Atlantic. In 1949 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and founded Watson-Brickson Lumber Company, where John served as President and owner for 25 years. Marge and John raised their three children in Lincoln, Nebraska, enjoying family and friends in Nebraska for 33 years. In 1982 they moved to Sun City West, Arizona and she resided there until April, 2007, when she moved to Overland Park, Kansas to be closer to family. Marge was active in Desert Garden United Church of Christ, Interfailth volunteering and later lived at The Heritage Tradition retirement home in Sun City West, Arizona. She was a life-long member of PEO and a an avid bridge player. She was also accomplished on the piano and organ, and enjoyed music throughout her life. Her life was characterized by devotion to John and her children, and her many friends over the years. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Bob and Angie Brickson of Overland Park, Kansas; Jack and Gretchen Brickson of Pasadena, California and Nancy and David Jacobson of Omaha, Nebraska as well as eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John Brickson, who died in 1993 due to complications from multiple sclerosis. Memorial service was held on Friday, June 22, 2007 at Desert Garden United Church of Christ, 18818 N. 128th Avenue in Sun City West, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Arizona Chapter 315, 15800 N. Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City, Arizona 85351.
