WISE, Carol Ann

(Maiden Name: Williams)

Carol Ann Wise, 74. Carol was born in San Francisco, California, the daughter of John and Eleanor Williams. Carol first traveled to Arizona in the 1940's, when she was 11 years old. Due to health problems, she spent two school years in Sells, Arizona, lived with the postmistress of the Papago Indian Reservation and attended one of the reservation schools located in an old wooden schoolhouse. She graduated from Bell High School in S.E. Los Angeles in 1951. After graduation, she worked for the FBI in L.A. for two years and was involved with the investigation of the famous "Black Dalia" case. She married Frank L. Wise of Huntington Park, California in December 1951, after eloping to Las Vegas. The couple lived in San Diego and San Jose, California and then moved to Seattle, Washington due to Frank's aerospace career. In the 1960's, Carol began taking painting lessons while the family lived in Washington, and sold several watercolor and oil paintings in juried art shows. Six years later, one of her watercolors was hung in an exhibit in the Seattle Art Museum. In the 1970's, Carol began successful careers as a employment counselor, Hallmark manager, and finally a travel agent. From their home on Lake Washington, Carol enjoyed sailing on the family's Coronado 27 through the San Juan Islands and to Canada. She also enjoyed traveling on cruises with her husband through the Panama Canal, the Carribean, Taihiti and Hawaii and bringing home art from exotic places. In 1990, after she and Frank retired, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, residing for 17 years in Leisure World. After becoming interested in geneology, Carol joined the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames. Carol Wise is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Tveit and Cynthia Littwin, both of Phoenix, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A small private service will be held in July at the family burial site in Colma, Califoria. Published in The Arizona Republic on 6/15/2007.
