H.K. “Mac” MacLennan dies (Thursday, April 15, 1982)
Wickenburg lost a good friend on Friday, April 9, when Hector Kenneth MacLennan died at Boswell Hospital in Sun City at the age of 85.
Born in Alberta, Canada, in 1897, his family migrated to the Salt River Valley, where his stepfather was foreman for the Goodyear Farms at Litchfield Park.
Mac attended the local valley schools and Tempe Normal School, known today as Arizona State University.
After his graduation, he taught school in Liberty and Buckeye and then returned to Tempe Normal to obtain his Administrators Degree.
He arrived in Wickenburg in 1927, when he was hired as superintendent of schools.
Mac was a charter and devoted member of the Wickenburg Rotary Club and was able to achieve 32 years of perfect attendance; member of the Kellis Draper Post American Legion; charter member of the Roundup Club; honorary member of the Desert Caballeros; and founder of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum and Maricopa County Historical Society.
