John R.
John R. Glassy passed away the morning of August 8, 2008.
He was born March 4, 1921 in Everett, Washington. He grew up in the Seattle-Tacoma area along with his four brothers, Frank, Maurice, Lawrence and Oliver and 3 sisters, Germane, Virginia and
Marylin.
He attended Seattle University and taught biology in Chester, Montana. John was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the US Navy October 28, 1942. John proudly served in the Pacific theatre as a gunner on the Navy's sea rescue plane, the PBY.
Before serving his country, he met his loving wife, Julie, in Seattle, Washington. They were married December 30, 1946 and he remained devoted to Julie throughout 61 years of marriage. John and Julie settled in Tacoma, Washington and raised 7 wonderful children.
John and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1970 where he worked for Maricopa County Health Department. John retired after working 22 years as a health inspector. John was a man of faith, being an active member in the Roman Catholic Church all his life. John possessed a talent for drawing and calligraphy that he used to create pictures and biblical sayings in a unique style all his own. Many that knew him have at least one piece of John's work. He was also a collector of sorts, especially books. John was a kind and generous man and will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Julie, and his 7 children, Catherine, Christine, Pauline, Robert, David, Anne and Damien. John and Julie were also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services include rosary and mass at Our Lady of Quito Roman Catholic Church, 9009 South 18th Street, Phoenix, Arizona, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 followed by a burial service at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Phoenix. Funeral arrangements were provided by Rude Family Northwest Mortuary.
