Ronald L. Hughes passed away April 9, 2012 at Sunrise Memorial Hospital in Las Vegas, at the age of 67, with his wife by his side. Ronald was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Giles and Dorothy Hughes Sept. 3, 1944.
Ron, or Ronnie, as he was called by his friends, along with this wife, Bonnie, moved to Lake Havasu City in 2002 after their retirement. Ron was an over-the-road trucker for several years, enjoying his time on the road and talking with his many trucker friends as he traveled the western half of the country. He then enjoyed a 21-year career working for SDDOT as a truck enforcement officer, retiring from that position in September 2002. Ron truly loved residing in Lake Havasu City with his favorite place being London Bridge Beach Park to socialize with his walking and bicycle friends. Ron was also an avid National Drag Racing fan and loved attending the national meets in Las Vegas.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sisters-in-law, Pat Hanson, Deb Billet, Penny Meyer; brother-in-law, Doug Billet; nieces and nephews; one brother, Robert; and his very close friends in South Dakota. The support they gave him was a true test of friendship. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
No services are planned. Spreading of his ashes will occur in South Dakota this summer. Friends are encouraged to stop by Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., and share memories.
