Barbara J. Smith, 85, of Kingman since 2009 passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, in Grandview, Texas. She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Harrisburg, Ill.
In her 60s, she retired from Pomona Box Company in California where she was the head of sales. She had many special talents in her later years. She did cake decorating in her 40s and 50s. She studied oil painting in her 60s and 70s. She took computer classes in her 70s. She did sewing and quilting in her 60s and 70s. She also did plastic canvas and needlework and crocheting and loved to read. She attended a reading class and a card making class here in Kingman. She was involved with the Cerbat Garden Club for the past two and a half years. As her family we are so blessed to have her beautiful oil paintings, as well as other crafts to remember her by.
She was a member of Eastern Star from October 1949 until her death, a total of 63 years. She joined in Los Angeles and had dual membership with West Covina, Calif., from 1978 to 2012 and with Deming, N.M. from 1991 to 2012.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Susan J. Jones of Kingman; and five grandchildren, Danny L. Jones of Grandview and Tammy S. Freshwater of Grandview, Randy E. Jones of Madison, Wis., Tiffany R. Jones of Rialto, Calif., and Jeremy A. Jones of Venus, Texas. She had nine great-grandchildren, seven in Texas and two in Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her son, Monte F. Garfield in 2001.
She became a Christian on Oct. 9, 2009. She attended church and Bible study at First Southern Baptist Church in Kingman. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at First Southern Baptist Church, 3120 Hualapai Mountain Road.
