HOLT, Charles Ceaman (Smokey) *

Bunker Family Funeral & Cremation Mesa, Arizona Charles Ceaman Holt July 14, 1908 ~ April 11, 2012 Charles C. "Smokey" Holt Smokey, age 103, died peacefully in his sleep on April 11, 2012. He was born on July 14, 1908, in Davenport, Iowa. He and his twin brother, Carl, were the youngest of the five children of Charles and Nannie Mae Holt. He learned to take care of himself at an early age. Smokey began working at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company as a young adult and worked there for over 40 years in many capacities. He was married to Mattie Hoke for 13 years and fathered four children, Mary Helen, Nancy, Joyce and Larry (Jake). After Mattie's death, he was married to Freida Varvel for 65 years during which time they enjoyed being with family and friends and traveling. Smokey made friends wherever he went and spent much of his time in service to his family, friends and church. He was the father of four children, nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren. A viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m. on April 17 in the LDS Lakeshore chapel in Tempe, AZ, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Gridley, KS.
