Services will be 1 p.m. April 20, 2012, at the Bob Stump VA Chapel. Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~~ Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Sunday, April 15, 2012 Sam R. Wheeler passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Bob Stump VA Medical Center, Community Living Center, in Prescott, Arizona. He was born in May, 1920, in Abingdon, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, great grandson, Tanner Maule, and his sons-in-law, Walter and Stephen Maule. He is survived by his children, Mary Maule, Charlotte Skinner (Bob), Patricia Brogdon (Randy), Joan Bullmore (Joe) and Sam J. Wheeler (Helen). He is also survived by his ten (10) grandchildren, Brad Maule, Karen and Tim Skinner, Jaime Mahosky, Mark, Mike, Matt and Joey Bullmore, Chad and Cliff Wheeler, and eight (8) great-grandchildren, Jennifer Maule, Tom Skinner, Alexis and Dylan Bullmore, Payton and Brendon Bullmore and Justin and Hayley Bullmore. He is also survived by two brothers, William and Joe of Texas. He served his country in World War II, in the 509th Composite Group as a Flight Engineer, on a B29 #73, “Strange Cargo”. Sam’s career as an engineer on the Santa Fe Railroad spanned over 43 years, which began as a Fireman on the Steam Engines in Ashfork, and ultimately took him and his family to Winslow, Arizona where he retired in 1986. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of dancing and picnicking in the pines around Flagstaff and spending time with his family. A memorial service will be held at the Bob Stump VA chapel, on Friday April 20, 2012, at 1PM. This obituary was prepared by the Advertising Department (928) 556-2279.
