Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona Wednesday, April 18, 2012 Shawn N. Boxell passed away peacefully at age 52, on March 31, 2012. Shawn was a beloved brother, a dedicated educator and terrific friend. He is survived by his brother, Jeffrey, and sister-in-law Yvonne. Shawn was the older of two children born and raised in Scottsdale, Ariz. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona, with post graduate studies at Cornell University School of Medicine. Shawn worked as a surgeon’s assistant until 2001, when he began his career in education. His last years were spent at Gila Community College in Globe, Ariz. instructing various science courses for the nursing program. Shawn was instrumental in creating The Marietta Interactive Trail, which is named for his mother and located on the campus. A true renaissance man, Shawn’s interests included everything from astronomy, music and art to bungee jumping, scuba and skydiving. Shawn will be missed by all those who have been blessed to know him. His selfless dedication to assist any of his students, friends or family was legendary. We have lost a wonderful brother, friend and teacher too soon. Each of us has lost a part of ourselves, but all of our lives have been immeasurably enriched by knowing Shawn. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 E. Main St. in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. Please join the Boxell family in celebration of Shawn’s life at the Pinal Mountain Elk’s Lodge, 1910 E. Maple St. Globe, Az. on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 6 p.m. Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, Az. 85014.
