Margaret M. McGregor was born Nov. 8, 1924 in Phoenix, Ariz. to Mabel Jones and Roy McGregor. She passed away peacefully in the home of her youngest daughter, who was by her side, in Globe, Ariz. on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the age of 87.
Marg/Marge came to Miami, Ariz. at a young age when her father moved to the local area and worked at Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company as a tin smith. She lived in company housing at Inspiration, Ariz. and attended Benjamin Franklin School, graduating from Miami High School and attending college at the U of A before moving to San Francisco, Calif. to work during the war at Lockheed.
While in California she met Claude (Mac) McGregor, a Navy sailor, and married him in Reno, Nev. on May 10, 1947. She lived in California, Wyoming and Indiana before returning to her hometown of Miami around 1954.
She was a homemaker and member of Divine Grace Presbyterian Church (formerly the Miami Presbyterian Church). She developed Alzheimer’s in the 2000s and suffered a stroke following her husband’s death in 2009, but was blessed to have retained a memory for faces and her face would light up with her wonderful smile when friends and family visited.
She is survived by her two daughters, Claudia Rapp (Dave) of Waverly, Ohio and Barbara Kannegaard (Matt) of Globe; her brother, Don McGregor (Carmen) of Miami; and her brother-in-law, John McGregor (Janie) of Oakland, Ind. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Rapp (Cheryl) of Waverly, Ohio, Alyshia Crace (Joe) of Piketon, Ohio, Lucas Kannegaard (Monica) of Miami, Samuel Kannegaard (Nikki) of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Joanna Ogan (Jason) of Kansas City, Mo. She leaves behind great-grandchildren Taylor-Jo and Aliah Crace, Elizabeth Kannegaard, Keelee Rapp, Rebecca Ogan and Colette Kannegaard. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her sisters, Mary Cardenaz, Katherine (Kay) Dickerson and Dorothy (Dee) Lorenzen.
The family would like to thank two wonderful caregivers, Cathy Sanchez and Patti Gribble. At her request there will be no service. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to Divine Grace Presbyterian Church, 305 W. Live Oak St., Miami, AZ 85539.
