STEPHENS, William Macmilla (Bill)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona March 2012 William Stephens 78, of Mesa, AZ passed away on March 19, 2012. Bill was born in Mesa, AZ to Beatrice Freeman & Howard Stephens. He spent his formative years serving as one of the first black Marines for the United States and working for the US Postal Service but found his true passion umpiring for for baseball games. He is survived by many sisters, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday March 29th at Bunker Family Funeral Homes Garden Chapel 33 North Centennial Way Mesa, AZ 85201. 9:00am-Viewing and 10:00am Service. Repass will immediately follow the service at the Washington Activity Center at 44 East 5th Street Mesa, Arizona. Bill will be laid to rest at the VA Cemetery at 2:00pm.
