OWENS, Cliff (Buzz)


Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on April 19, 2012 - Cliff "Buzz" Owens died unexpectedly from a heart attack on Monday, April 9, 2012, in Kingman, at the age of 61. Cliff was born on June 30, 1950, in Alamosa, Colo., to Wendell and Mary Owens. He graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1968. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft electrician from 1969 to 1972. He was stationed in San Diego and Okinawa, Japan. He moved to Craig, Colo., in 1979 and worked at Colowyo Coal Company. He became an electrical inspector for the state of Colorado in 2000 and retired in 2010 as an electrical inspector supervisor. He moved to Kingman to enjoy retirement. Cliff was an avid pistol and rifle shooter. He earned the rank of master indoor bullseye pistol shooter and expert outdoor bullseye pistol shooter. He was also a Colorado state indoor champion. After moving to Arizona, Cliff volunteered at the Mohave Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed hunting for geocaches and travel bugs. Cliff especially loved riding his Harley with his biker friends. He is remembered by many as happy, witty and humorous, and never knew a stranger. He dearly loved his family and friends. He is survived by a son, Dustin Owens; grandson, Wesley Owens; two daughters, Myriah (Jay) Vandre, his newly born granddaughter, Maya; and Kim Owens; also a sister, Irene; brother, Jim; and mother, Mary Owens-Knapp; his cousin, Larry (Kathy) Owens and other cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell Owens; and stepbrother, Gary Owens. As he wished, his organs were donated.
