Richard Stanton Testut
March 2, 1910 - April 17, 2012
Richard Stanton Testut lived a long and active life. He passed away peacefully on April 17, 2012, at 102 years young. Richard was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in Bloomfield, N.J. The son of an NBC producer in New York City, Richard met many radio stars when he wasn't on the football or baseball fields. Quite an athlete in high school, he also formed a band called Sam's Orientals playing trumpet.
Richard attended Cornell University and joined a brokerage firm on Wall Street. He advanced to a sales management position at Scott Paper Co., executive positions with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Muzak Corp. and Servel Corp. During WWII, Richard traveled around the country speaking to business leaders as a member of the Committee for Economic Development. He eventually moved to Los Angeles where he formed his own firm specializing in business mergers and acquisitions. He enjoyed getting away to the Thunderbird Country Club in the Palm Desert area where he was an officer on the board of directors.
After retiring at 85, he moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he eventually met Virginia Poynter, both being widowed. They were married 12 years ago and moved to Prescott in 2010. Richard attributed his longevity to living an active, healthy life with a positive outlook and one martini every evening for relaxation. He was honored in March at the Centenarian Celebration at the Hassayampa Inn in Prescott.
Richard leaves his wife, Virginia Testut; his children by previous marriage Richart Testut Jr. of Lake Oswego, Ore., Robert Testut of New York City, Barbara Weaver of Los Olivos, Calif., Beverly Tarac (deceased); 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina Hills, Calif.
