Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - Dolores Ann Strickland Nov. 6, 1945 — April 14, 2012 Dolores Ann Gibson was born Nov. 6, 1945 in St. Petersburg, Fla. to her parents Charlie T. Gibson and Virginia P. Hicks. She graduated from high school in June of 1963. The family later moved to California where she began working for the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District. She worked there for over 20 years, finishing as the Chief Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of schools. Dee Gibson and Wylie Strickland married Jan. 31, 1969 in Los Angeles. They celebrated 43 years of marriage this January. One of Dee’s favorite pastimes was playing golf. She played for many years, and was very active in the Lake Havasu Women’s Golf Association, where she served several terms on the board, including four years as President. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Gibson and Virginia Hicks. She is survived by her husband, Wylie Strickland; brothers, Buddy Gibson and Gary (Robin) Lasley; daughters, Debbie (Tom) and Kari (Fred); grandchildren, Andy (Natalie), Emily (Cody), Aaron (Lauren), Nathan (Jackie), Lamar; and great-grandchildren, Brody, Madeleine, Beckham, Conrad and Harper; and nephews and nieces. Dee was diagnosed with lung cancer in June of 2010. She fought it bravely, undergoing several rounds of chemo until succumbing to its ravages April 14, while in the presence of Wylie and her family.
