HANES, Elda (Ed)

Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from April 22 to April 29, 2012 - Elda "Ed" Hanes, an 8-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., left this life for his future in eternity Tuesday, April 10, 2012, with his wife at his side. After graduating from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif., Ed joined the Merchant Marines in 1945. After being honorably discharged from the Merchant Marines, he began an apprenticeship for Sam Arant, learning his trade at his garage in auto mechanics. In 1950, he entered the U.S. Army and was sent to Korea. His ranking was Sargeant First Class, and he was promoted to Warrant Officer on a battlefield promotion. After the Army, he worked at North American Aviation on the night shift and boat motors on the morning shift. He was a very patient man and had a very strong character. Ed was able to repair anything that needed it. Ed married his wife, Joann, in August 1958. They had three children, Betsy, Bill and Holly. Ed participated in all of the normal family things, i.e.: Little League coach, Boy Scout Cub Master, assistant Scout Master, and girls softball assistant coach. He loved to cook at home and at the church. He faithfully served the Lord at First Christian Church in Canyon Country, Calif., as a 'worker bee,' deacon and elder. After retiring in 1993, he continued to worship at the Church of Christ in Canyon Country, Calif. Ed's wife joined him in retirement in 1996, and in 2004 they relocated to Bullhead City, Ariz., and became active at Valley Christian Church. Ed loved to go camping with family or the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and he was good at them. He also helped or managed cooking for church activities: Easter, pancake breakfasts, spaghetti for "back to school night", Thanksgiving turkey, dressing and gravy. Everyone loved Ed's cooking! He was preceded in death by William "Bill" Hanes, and Zachery J. Hanes. Ed is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 53 years, Joann Hanes; two daughters, Betsy "Hanes" Kruk of Anaheim, Calif., and Holly Hanes of Huntington Beach, Calif.; four granddaughters, Alexandra Lopez, Kasey Hanes Jenkins, Adrianna Kruk and Sarah Turney; and grandson, Chance Hanes. Ed's Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Valley Christian Church, 1706 North Oatman Rd., Bullhead City, Ariz.
