Joaquin O. “Jimmy” Garcia passed away in Miami, Ariz. on April 9, 2012. Jimmy was born in Miami, Ariz. on Aug. 16, 1936. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonia and Isaac Garcia; and granddaughter, Madeline Audrina Garcia.
Jimmy lived in Miami his whole life and attended George Washington School and Miami High School. He went to Gila Pueblo College and got his pipe fitter apprenticeship for four years. Jimmy was in the Army National Guard and the United States Air Force.
Jimmy’s work history included working for the Sunset Bar as a custodian, some plumbing maintenance, and then at Inspiration Copper Co. and Cyprus Copper. He also worked part-time at Miami Memorial Library as a custodian for 16 years as well as at Old Dominion Library, Gila Pueblo College, and two years at the Christine Apartment Complex as the ground and maintenance man. He also did drywall repair and painting, plumbing fixture repair, changing locks and evaporative cooler repair.
Jimmy volunteered his time to little league as a coach, St. Joseph Chapel, and doing work for the elderly repairing coolers, furnaces, painting, plumbing, and yard maintenance.
Jimmy belonged to the following organizations: Miami Steel Workers for 38 years, 1741 Pipe Fitters Union for four years, Knights of Columbus for 20 years, and Globe-Miami Latino Club for 15 years.
Jimmy leaves behind in loving memory his wife, Alicia Garcia of Miami; daughters, Dolores Gonzales of Miami, Angelita Garcia Benyshek of Ahwatukee, Consuelo Kolbeck of Glendale, Ariz., and Marie Moreno (Andy) of Gilbert, Ariz.; son, Javier Garcia of Cutter, Ariz.; brother, Isaac Garcia (Denise) of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Dora Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif., Connie Gomez of Los Angeles, Calif., Annie Padilla (Gilbert) of Miami, Ariz., and Teri Pizano (Michael) of Miami, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will miss Jimmy very much. The family requests that any donations be made to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church to go toward the shrine. A memorial mass with military honors was held April 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Miami, Ariz.
