Mary J. Barber, 87, of Scottsdale Arizona journeyed to heaven on January 25, 2008, where she joined her husband in the house of the lord. Mary was born in Binghamton New York on June 10, 1920, to Elsie A. Jenks and J. Glenn Jenks. Mary received her college degree in Education from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1942.
Shortly, there after she met her husband, a navy man and also a school instructor David M. Barber. They were married in July 1944, and were married for 52 yrs. During their marriage they brought two loving children into the world, a daughter Carol J. Barber and a son David D. Barber, both residing in Arizona and her Grandson Justin W. Barber of Minneapolis, MN.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband David M. Barber in May of 1997. Mary was a firm believer in education being the road to success and was a school instructor in New York for more than 33 yrs. In 1959 she obtained her Master degree in Science from Cortland State College. Education remained a focus for her, following retirement, by attending painting classes at Scottsdale Community College well into her 80's.
As a member of the Dutch Reform Church she devoted hours of volunteer time following her retirement. Mary will live on thru her children, and the many persons she educated in upper state New York.
Funeral Services Tuesday February 5, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85251.
