BECKER, Herbert A. (Herb)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Herbert A. "Herb" Becker, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away May 28, 2010. Herb was born May 8, 1921, in Hollis, N.Y., went to school there and graduated from Notre Dame University. While in college, he trained for a career in aviation. While enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Reserve, Herb flew with TWA, teaching cadets to fly and worked flights to Europe in support of World War II. Later, he flew with United Airlines and made 38 trips in support of the Vietman air lift. Herb retired from 15 years of teaching flight students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Prescott, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Barbara (nee Beilman) Becker and Nicholas Peter Becker; wife, of 47 years, Ruth (nee Koechel) Becker; companion, of five years, Gerri Noonan; and brothers, Robert, Don and Arthur. Herb is survived by his sister, Kathleen Krug of Glen Cove, N.Y.; daughters, Cynthia of Sausalito, Calif., and Barbara Lloyd of Las Vegas; son, Don of Dallas, Texas; and grandchildren, Lucius and Melissa Lloyd. Per Herb's wishes, no services were held. His ashes were interned August 10, 2010 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ. He requested that any contributions go to the Humane Society of Sedona, AZ.
