Keiko passed unexpectedly April 26, 2012 in Las Vegas. Keiko was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 23, 1948, to Saburo and Haruko Chinen. She lived in Hawaii for 20 years before moving to Southern California. In 2007, she moved to Lake Havasu City with her life partner of 30 years, Randi Smith. During her life she had a passion for sales and marketing and owned her own small retail, resale business. In 2008, she joined Wal-Mart when they opened the new store. Keiko was known for her great service with a smile in the deli department.
Keiko loved to go fishing, camping, dancing and going to the casinos. Most of all, she loved to be with her friends and family. For Randi and their son, Austin, Keiko was always the loving caretaker.
Keiko is survived by her life partner, Randi Smith, and their son, Austin Chinen-Smith, both of Lake Havasu City; daughter, Julie Sheppard, of Bridgeport, Texas; son, Jason Hughes, of Paradise, Texas; and two grandchildren; sister, Sally Unten, of Kailua, Hawaii; brother, (Blackie) and wife, Mary Chinen, of Honolulu, Hawaii; nieces, Kristina Unten, Corina and Carla Chinen; nephews, Kevin and Kerwin Unten; her beloved cousin, Katz Shimodol, of Pearl City, Hawaii; and Richard and Diane Nakamura, of Waipahu, Hawaii.
A celebration of Keiko’s life with family and friends will take place May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Club House at 2365 Anita Ave., Lake Havasu City.
