Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, May 3, 2012 - William R. Bechtel 87 passed away April 26, 2012 in Lake Havasu City. He was born November 3rd, 1924, in Central California but grew up in Southern California with 9 other siblings. Bill, as he was known to his family and friends, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for three years before being honorably discharged. Bill and Sue retired to Lake Havasu City in 1984 after 39 years with Southern California Edison. He belonged to the Elks Club and was with the Rotary clubs in California. Bill loved everything to do with the outdoors, camping, fishing, boating and his favorite past time was golf. His death was preceded by his wife of 59 years; Betty Sue Bechtel, who died July 17, 2003. Bill is survived by his loving four children: Lynne Bechtel Dolph, of Houston Texas, Ken Bechtel and his wife, Debbie, of Rancho Cucamonga Calif., Don Bechtel and his wife, Marga, of Henderson Nev., Janet Fuller and her husband, Dave, of Lake Havasu City. Bill and Sue also had 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister, Luci Moyers, of Dana Point, Calif. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial gathering for Bill will be Saturday, May 19, at 11:30 am. at the family’s home. Military Honors will be rendered by the Lake Havasu Detachment of the VFW. Bill requested donations to either the American Cancer Society or any cancer charity on his behalf in lieu of flowers.
