Shadow Mountain Mortuary Phoenix, Arizona Ann Schmidt September 15, 1909 ~ March 21, 2012 Ann B. Schmidt 102 of Phoenix passed away on March 21, 2012. Ann was born September 15, 1909 near Mt. Vernon, Illinois and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, earning a B.S. degree with a major in science and a minor in English. She retired in 1972 after thirty-seven years of educational instructing, mostly at Mt. Vernon Township High School where she was head of the Science Department and very active in faculty and student functions. She was a passionate supporter of "her kids" in all endeavors and was honored by induction in the Mt. Vernon Township High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 as a "friend of sports". Arizona residences were in Tucson for many years and most recently at LifeStream (formerly Baptist Village) in Phoenix. Ann was preceded in death by husband Claude W. Schmidt and grandson Brian A. Schmidt. She is survived by son Larry L. Schmidt of Florence, Kentucky and wife Veronica, and grandchildren Phillip, Anne Marie and Michael Schmidt; and son Jerry H. Schmidt of Scottsdale, Arizona and wife Sondra and granddaughter Suzanne E. McGowan and husband Matthew of Northville, Michigan, and great-grandchildren Trevor, Elizabeth and Lauren McGowan. She will be remembered by loyal friend Margie Meyer of Baptist Village and friends, family and students from her many years in the Midwest and Arizona. By request, a memorial service will be deferred until a family gathering at a later date.
