STRONG, Charles Earl


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, December 31, 2005 Charles Earl Strong passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2005. He was born in Champaign-Urbana,Ill., Oct. 23, 1922. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Doris "Dee"; and their two children, Randall Strong (Suzanne) and Suzanne Armstrong (Frank); and five grandchildren, Brent and Dana Armstrong and Brittany, Brooke and Sherry Strong. He was a loving husband, father and family man. Charles served his country proudly for five years in the Navy, during World War II. After the war was over, Charles worked in the construction industry traveling around the country. Charles and his family settled in Phoenix in 1955, where he began his career with the Phoenix Police Department. In addition to his success as a police officer and graduate of the FBI Academy, he is probably remembered best for his remarkable work ethic, leadership skills, humor and honesty: All of these strengths were demonstrated daily through his work as the Phoenix Assistant Chief of Police from 1973 to 1979. Upon retirement, Charles and Dee moved to Prescott. Charles was an exemplary human being, loved and respected and treasured by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3,2006, at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Road, Mesa, Ariz.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, Ariz., 85014. Mariposa Gardens handled the arrangements. Information provided by survivors.
