Lawrence Smith Jr. passed away in Lake Havasu City, May 3, at the age of 86. Corky, as he was known to family and friends, was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Lawrence and Lola (Crick) Smith.
Corky was the owner of Barclay Architectural Products before moving to Lake Havasu City 23 years ago. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, B.P.O.E. No. 2399, and V.F.W. Post No. 9401. He loved magic, golf, tennis and making people laugh. He enjoyed music, reading classified ads out loud, history and politics. He also enjoyed spending time with his coffee buddies at Hastings, bible study group, Criscillo group and Veterans Support group.
Corky is survived by his loving family, wife of 65 years, Eleanor Smith, of Lake Havasu City; sons, Larry (Jeanne) Smith, of Austin, Texas, and Steve (Donna) Smith, of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Michelle “Shelly” (Pete) Klovanish, of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Kathleen (Bill) Slagle, of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2170 Havasupai Blvd., Lake Havasu City, with words of comfort and inspiration by Pastor Jim Price and Rev. Steven Smith. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. Post No. 9401, 266 London Bridge Road, Lake Havasu City.
