Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Wednesday, May 16, 2012 - Wayne Webster Powell passed away May 12, 2012 in Lake Havasu City. He was born in Burlington, Vt., May 25, 1933. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1940, where he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in Korea. He became a Deputy Sheriff in 1950 for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASO). He married Kathleen June 21, 1961, and adopted her sons, John and Richard. They moved to La Palma, Calif., in 1966 to make their home. He retired from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASO) in 1985. He and Kathleen moved to Lake Havasu City in 1987. He enjoyed his passion for woodworking, golf and acting. He was a member of the Drury Lane Theatre in which he acted, directed and built many sets for plays. He built many things in his shops for many groups including the Manning Lighthouse at Crazy Horse Campground. He and Kathleen celebrated their golden anniversary June 21, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sons, Richard and John and daughter-in-law, Barbara; granddaughter, Ashley; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie. Memorial services will be at Lietz-Fraze Chapel Thursday at 6 p.m. with a visitation starting at 5 p.m. The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Havasu in lieu of flowers 365 S.
