Howard Urban departed this life after 83 years on April 27, 2011. He was born in Brooklyn New York in 1928. He joined the Army after high school and served in occupied Japan.
He married Elza in 1950 and became a mechanical engineer in 1951. In 1970, Howard and Elza opened The Narrows Restaurant in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
He was an avid reader, loved to fish, play dominos, scuba dive and square dance and he loved to walk and hike in the woods.
In order to find meaning and purpose in his twilight walk with Alzheimer's Disease, Howard participated in the Brain and Body Donation Program at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute. He dedicated his final challenge to contributing what he could to free future generations from similar affliction.
Howard is survived by his wife Elza, their two children, Neil and Melanie, two granddaughters and two great-grand children.
A memorial service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery at 2309 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, 85024, on May 6, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Benevilla, Banner Sun Health Research Institute, the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of the Valley.
