West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona Friday, May 18, 2012 Charlene M. Schoggen, 89, of Litchfield Park died May 13, 2012, from Alzheimer's disease in Litchfield Park. Mrs. Schoggen was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo. She moved to Arizona in 1991. She was a school teacher and was a member of Banner Sun Health Research Institute Organ Donation Program. She was also a chemist in a steel plant in Omaha, Neb., during World War II. She worked at Dayton's Department Store in Minneapolis before moving with her family to Alameda, Calif., when her husband returned to serve with the Navy during the Korean War. She held many volunteer positions during duty assignments in Yokosuka, Japan, Arlington, Va., Newport, R.I., Castlledefels, Spain, Athens, Ga., Mechanicsburg, Pa., Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Long Beach, Calif., and Brooklyn, N.Y. She completed post-graduate courses at Long Island University in New York to earn her teaching credentials in New York. She taught elementary school in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and McLean, Va. She is survived by her husband, Joe; one daughter, Stephanie S. Rollins; one son, Stephen; one brother, Larry D. Schwenk; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
