Lawrence “Bus” Hamant, 91, resident of Eagar died May 17, 2012 at White Mountain Regional Medical Center in Springerville. He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio.
Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on an LST. Later he worked in his family’s business as a toolmaker manufacturing graining machinery. He married Anne J. Fries Aug. 14, 1944, in Norfolk, Va. Lawrence was an organist, loved to golf and fish and loved to make people laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Anne Hamant, Eagar; daughter Julie Santos, Spring, Texas; sister Cecilia Placke, Kettering, Ohio; three grandchildren: Larry R. (April) Santos, San Diego, Calif., Kathy Santos, Spring, Texas and David Santos, also of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Schwartz (2003).
A Rosary and Memorial Mass was held Monday, May 21, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Springerville.
